Senior thesis is a research project that students do in their last year of high school at Woodside. It is taught in the English and Government/Economics classes and counts toward those grades.

Senior thesis is a way for students to research a topic they are passionate about and show their analytical skills and knowledge of the topic they choose. Senior Vilma Romero explained her experience while writing her Senior Thesis and gave some tips for juniors who are getting close to writing theirs.

“I would tell juniors to choose a topic they’re passionate about,” Romero said.  “I would also say to not procrastinate because they give about two weeks, so breaking it down into small parts helped.”

Romero explained how she broke down the project into smaller parts. She explained how she was stressed out but everything came together in the end.

“The process of writing my senior thesis was stressful [while] trying to find reliable sources,” Romero said. “You’re constantly reading and analyzing sources so it was a little difficult.”

Romero felt that writing a senior thesis can be a challenging but rewarding experience that allows students to feel accomplished after doing a big research project. It also prepares students for the writing they will do in college. Romero explained how to stay motivated.

“I did have moments where I wanted to give up,” Romero said. “If I did it would have impacted my grade so I pushed myself to finish.”
