Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny, took the stage during the halftime show on February 8th for Super Bowl LX, the most-viewed game to date, with a peak of 137.8 million viewers.
Even though the actual game will be easy to forget, the halftime show will not. It was the first Super Bowl halftime show in history performed entirely in Spanish. At the end of the performance, delivering a clear message of unity and love, the phrase “The only thing more powerful than hate is love” was displayed on the Jumbotron at Levi’s Stadium.
Bringing it back to his Puerto Rican culture, Bad Bunny included numerous references to Puerto Rico in his performance. Singing through sugarcane, he walks around the field looking at coconut carts, a woman getting her nails done, a drink cart and a taco cart among other things.
As interesting and entertaining as this segment of the show was for the people at home, videos and reports show that from inside the actual stadium, it wasn’t very visible.
There was a moment where he stood on top of a white building, falling into what seemed to be a Puerto Rican family’s living room. Again, really cool but only for those watching at home. People in the stands and at the stadium couldn’t see what was going on inside.
While performing the track “Monaco”, we then see two of his fans get married live on stage in front of 70,000 people. This iconic wedding was then followed by the first celebrity feature in the performance, Lady Gaga, who performed a “Die With a Smile (Salsa Remix)”.
As fun and unique as the Lady Gaga remix was, I feel like the song choice didn’t fit in with the Puerto Rican vibe of the concert. I think either a different artist or a different song choice could’ve been better, but it was good nonetheless.
The next celebrity feature was Ricky Martin, who sang a quick song which sounded pretty good for the most part, ending with the power line props exploding. No complaints about that feature, since I don’t know much about Ricky Martin, but the stadium erupted when he was shown, so I think he’s much loved.
With the football in hand, Bad Bunny screams “God Bless America” then marches out with people holding an array of flags from across the Americas and the Caribbean.
With high energy and fireworks, he then exits into the tunnel blasting the song “DtMF”.
Overall, I think that this was a very memorable halftime show. I thought it was interesting that it followed the Kendrick Lamar show, which was also sharing an important message. Being the first-ever Spanish concert, someone getting married and the Puerto Rican environment, this was one that won’t be forgotten any time soon. The things I would mark off on the halftime show this year were that it was too short and that the Lady Gaga segment was a little weird. Other than that, pretty good all things considered. I would rate Super Bowl LX in 2026 a solid 7/10.
