Palmetto Superfoods is a Bay Area chain that built its reputation on its popular, vibrant açaí bowls.
These smoothie bowls have been growing in popularity online, looking nearly too pretty to eat. Known for its purple acai base and neatly arranged toppings, Palmetto advertises a refreshing and healthy treat.
I ordered a classic açaí base with strawberries, bananas, dragon fruit, and granola toppings. The presentation was very impressive and appetizing. The bright colors of the purple base and fruit toppings made it look like quite the delicacy. The fruit tasted flavorful and fresh, with the strawberries being especially sweet. I also really enjoyed the granola, adding a crunch to balance out the ice cream texture of the açaí base.
My favorite was the dragon fruit, a lighter purple layer added to the acai. It was sweet but had a subtle taste, which paired well with the berry taste of the base. The dragon fruit’s flavor definitely gave each bite a tropical twist. It was refreshing but also energizing. It’s on the healthier end of desserts, making the experience feel indulgent and somewhat beneficial at the same time.
One downside was the high price. I got a medium bowl with three toppings and two different bases (since dragonfruit is a base on their menu). I spent a total of $13.50 on the bowl, which I feel is definitely more expensive for a bowl of fruit ingredients. It’s not terrible, but I’d like the pieces to be a little cheaper.
Despite the price, the quality makes Palmetto Superfoods a solid choice for anyone looking for a cool and unique type of treat. I think it’s a good dessert for after a workout or on a hot day. I can definitely see why this chain has grown in loyal popularity across the Bay Area. I’d rate my experience a solid 8/10.
