Three student athletes committed to continue their academic and athletic journeys in college on National Signing Day last Wednesday.
The athletes who committed to colleges are as follows: senior Brooke Banks committed to Southern Methodist University for equestrian, senior Trent Amoroso committed to Lewis & Clark College for baseball and senior Seth Collet committed to University of California, Santa Barbara for swimming. Banks was unable to make it to the celebrations.
Students, faculty and parents met in the New Gym at lunch as athletes listened to speeches, took photos and signed their commitment to their respective universities. Many of the student athletes shared their athletic journeys, which head guidance counselor Francisco Negri read to the gathered crowd.

Amoroso has played baseball for 15 years and intends to study psychology in college. He expressed his gratitude for his parents and coaches for helping him throughout his athletic career.
“[Amoroso] wants to give a shout out to his parents, because they’ve been by his side for the whole ride, spent tons of money and time for him to play and get to that next level,” Negri said.
Collet, similarly, has swam for 15 years and shared his thanks for his parents and coaches. He shared how swimming has helped him develop a strong work ethic, perseverance, time management and discipline.
“[Collet’s] words of advice: if you really want to be good at your respective sport, you must sacrifice a lot and always carry a chip on your shoulder,” Negri said. “Nothing is ever enough.”

Banks, who’s competed in equestrian for six years, plans on studying business management in college.
“She’s been involved for over six years, and feels like it’s had a huge impact on her ability to time manage, communicate and organize,” Negri said.
As these athletes step into the next chapter of their lives, Negri shared how Woodside is proud of their academic and athletic successes.
“They are the epitome of student athletes holding it together, not only on the field, but academically,” Negri said. “What a proud representation of Woodside High School. Congratulations to the three athletes recognized today.”
