Costco food is one hundred percent worth the price and effort to get.
Costco is a Wholesale Corporation that is a chain of membership warehouses. It carries merchandise at lower prices rather than other merchandise found at conventional wholesale or retail stores.
Inside all Costcos they have a food court. The food they currently have in the court is hotdogs ($1.50), pepperoni and cheese pizza slices ($1.99) or whole pizza ($9.95), chicken bakes ($3.99), turkey swiss sandwiches ($6.99), fountain drinks ($0.69), fruit smoothie ($2.99), cold brew mocha freeze ($2.99), chocolate or strawberry ice cream sundae ($2.49), vanilla or chocolate ice cream cup ($1.99), chocolate chip cookie ($2.49) and rotisserie chicken caesar salad ($6.99).
As you can see, these prices are significantly lower than usual food in today’s economy. To buy a regular Chipotle bowl it costs around 12 dollars. Twelve dollars compared to a 3.99-dollar chicken bake is a huge difference.
Usually, money equals quality, so some may speculate that maybe Costco’s food is not very good.
I went and tried everything at the Redwood City Costco’s food court, except the rotisserie chicken caesar salad and the turkey swiss sandwiches.
Starting off very strong with the chicken bake. Personally, when I go to Costco, this is my go too. It consists of chopped chicken breast strips, bacon pieces, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheeses and creamy caesar dressing. There is good juiciness, the chicken isn’t dry and the outer bread is crispy but not burnt. In my opinion, this is a very solid choice. Maybe not all Costcos cook the chicken bakes as well as the ones I’ve tried, but so far my experience has been very good. I’d honestly give it a 9.5/10.
Next, we have the hotdog. I may be a little biased on this rating because I’m not the biggest fan of them, but I do enjoy a good hotdog. The hotdogs are 100% beef. To me, this kind of tasted like every other hotdog, of course, it will never be that good because it’s just a hotdog in a bun, but adding the condiments they offer, which are ketchup, mustard and relish, could definitely improve the taste. I gave the hotdog a 6/10, just because it wasn’t anything special.
Now the pizza. I got one slice of pepperoni pizza. To be completely honest, it really wasn’t as good as I’d hoped and remembered. Maybe I got a bad batch, but it was very thin and not super flavorful. When eating it, I almost thought the school pizza was better. It was not bad, just not as good as it could’ve been. For these reasons, I gave it a 6/10.
I then got a cookie. For almost $3, I was hoping this cookie would be fantastic. It was definitely a thick cookie but $3 worth, I don’t think so. It was very rich. The chocolate was completely melted inside, which isn’t exactly a bad thing, but an observation. It also was kind of crumbly on the rim. Very crumbly on the outside and very soft in the middle. It had good taste, but like I said, a little rich. If the cookie was a little cheaper I’d recommend, but I feel 3 dollars is kind of pushing it for a mid-cookie. I gave it a 5/10.
Following this was a fruit smoothie. Just like the chicken bake, this is my go-to. The fruit smoothie consists of a berry mixture of strawberry, blackberry and açaí. It’s a good consistency, not too liquidy and not too thick. The only downside is that sometimes there are some chunks in the smoothie that clog the straw, plus they have paper straws that suck. So, I’d suggest getting multiple because of how fragile they are. As my rating, I give the fruit smoothie an 8/10.
I also tried the cold brew mocha freeze. In my opinion, this freeze is really good. It is chocolatey and not too coffee-tasting. As someone who doesn’t like the taste of straight coffee, this is a really good drink. There of course is a taste of coffee, but it’s minor and blends well with the chocolate flavor. I’d definitely recommend this drink. I give it an 8.5/10.
Finally, we have the sundays. I tried the vanilla strawberry one. It is basically just vanilla ice cream topped with strawberry puree with some strawberry chunks. The ice cream was really good and not thin. The puree was also very good and not too sweet. The only thing I wished was different was that there was the puree throughout the Sunday, but overall, it was really good. I gave this a 9/10.
And of course, like I said, I didn’t get the rotisserie chicken caesar salad and the turkey swiss sandwiches, so I won’t be able to rate those.
As seen by my rating, overall, the food was actually pretty good, especially for their prices. The food didn’t take too long to get and the ordering process was quick and simple.
The only difficulty with getting the Costco food was actually getting in. Due to their new entering process, you have to scan your membership card and a picture of the person with the membership pops up on their end. As a teenager who just wants Costco food, I am not going to have a membership card. In the past, I used my mom’s card to get in. But now, when I scan it they remind me that the person on the screen is not me, and won’t let me in. It sucks but obviously, I understand because I’m not the one paying for the membership.
Besides that one struggle, it was a good experience and I’d recommend their food to everyone.
