Woodside football has faced some challenging opponents throughout this season; however, the Wildcats have emerged victorious after these matches.
So far, varsity has been undefeated through the regular season with a record of 10-0, and the junior varsity (JV) team finished with a winning record of 8-2.
“Like I said before, just the big emphasis on total athletic development,” Varsity Head Coach Justin Andrews said. “I think our football players are much faster and better, more explosive athletes, and that’s been translated into play on the field”.
The Wildcats’ strong focus on athletic development has contributed to this season’s impressive performances.
“I think there’s something impressive to take away from every single performance,” Andrews said. “Each game presents a different challenge that we have to figure out and overcome, and I’ve been really pleased with our team’s ability to do that this season.”
Reviewing previous games is essential for the Woodside football team, as it allows them to assess what they did right and wrong and make the necessary adjustments for the next game.
“[To perform we] just keep focusing on our work constantly, watch film, and study other teams and don’t slack off,” sophomore JV player Jayden Escobar said.
Football players continually improve from their previous matches by studying diligently and refining their skills and athleticism.
“[We can maintain success by] continuing what we’ve been doing and not being afraid to kind of challenge the norms and do what works for us,” Andrews said. “And just continue to develop how we’ve been developing.”
