From Jan. 7 to March 15 Chick-fil-A is offering a meal that includes the Grilled Spicy Deluxe sandwich, fries and a drink. Along with the release of the Grilled Spicy Sandwich, the Key Lime Lemonade drink was also released and is available for the same amount of time. I set out to the Chick-fil-A tab on DoorDash to find out whether the new limited items are worth it.
I go to Chick-fil-A so much with my friends and usually I get a Spicy chicken sandwich with Chick-fil-A sauce and a large fry with Dr Pepper. I like Chick-fil-A’s sandwiches and just their food overall but this one was definitely a miss on their part.
I ordered the combo meal which included the Grilled spicy deluxe, fries, and a drink. The combo does not specifically come with the key lime lemonade, and I had to ask for it but did not cost extra since the combo came with a drink of my choice. I also asked for Chick-fil-A sauce and the cilantro lime sauce which is not new. This all cost me $15.59.
The first look of the sandwich was not a good one. The cheese was not melted, there was too much lettuce and the bun fell apart as soon as I picked it up. It was overall hard to eat, the sauce from the grilled chicken was everywhere and the sandwich was not that spicy. The sandwich had a good flavor and nice texture apart from the cheese and bun. The taste does not make up for the texture and hurt my stomach endured.
The Key Lime Lemonade had a very lemony taste to it with a hint of lime. It has some pulp or slush in it but I think that made it better. It did however only come in a small size, but overall it had a great taste and texture and perfectly cold. I ended up ordering another for the road. It would have been better if there was more variety regarding the size options.
The combo comes with a medium fry and only a few extra sauces. However, the fries are always good at Chick-fil-A, especially with their signature sauce. The fries they offer are always great and have no imperfections.
While the cilantro sauce was complemented by the sandwich, by itself it tasted like salad dressing and ranch mixed together with tiny cilantro bits in it. It was not a good combo in my opinion.
Everything in the combo but the sandwich was great and had great taste. However, I do not believe the combo is worth it, or even the sandwich. I do not think I got my money’s worth because of the lack of size variety with the drink. However, the drink taste pulled the entire thing together. If there was more size variety, it would be so much better than going back inside for a refill. Overall, the entire combo was rated a 7/10 with the Key Lime Lemonade and fries pulling in the most rating points.
If you do desire to try the new items but are worried about the portion sizes I would recommend that you get two of the Key Lime Lemonade and ask for large fries if they let you. Do not get the sandwich just for yourself. It seems more like a sandwich to share rather than a meal for one.
While I did enjoy some parts of this meal, that being the drink, I did not enjoy the aftermath the sandwich had on my stomach. If you do end up trying this sandwich, bring some Tums, or maybe Pepto Bismo.
