The Redwood City Public Library Teen Center, located on the second floor of the Downtown Library, is an incredible resource for teens in the community, and I can’t recommend it enough!
Whether you’re a student looking for a space to work or someone in search of a fun place to hang out, the Teen Center is the perfect spot. The space itself is inviting, with comfy seating and a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is both friendly and approachable, making you feel welcome. I thought the space reflected what teens need, shown through the variety of amenities and activities they offer.
One of the best parts of the Teen Center is the free access to computers. Whether you’re there to get homework done, play video games with friends or simply browse the web, it’s helpful to have access to reliable computers without having to pay. Along with the computers, the center offers free snacks if you ask the staff, some include rice krispie treats and freshly popped popcorn. Another great feature of the center is the virtual reality (VR) headsets available for use. It’s a great way to experience the world of VR, whether you’re into gaming or just want to try something new.
The Teen Center also has a variety of fun and creative activities. When I visited, there were materials to make custom Valentine’s Day cards. The center almost always has optional craft options, according to staff, which are therapeutic and fun.
The center’s upcoming events are definitely worth checking out. Two events that are coming up are the Video Game Night and Movie Night, on Feb. 4 and 6. I thought these, and other special events the center regularly holds were great opportunities for teens to socialize.
I thought my visit to the Teen Center and their website displayed what a valuable resource it can be for any teen in the area. Whether you want to hang out with friends after studying in the library, partake in social events, or just need somewhere local to go, the teen center is a great option. I would say it’s definitely something worth checking out if you’re in the area. To find upcoming events and teen center hours check out the Redwood City Public Library website under Teen Center.
