Woodside’s opinions on Fortnite OG map revival

The+OG+Fortnite+Season+is+bringing+people+back+to+the+game.
The OG Fortnite Season is bringing people back to the game.

Fortnite brings a new season filled with past memories through its throwback map, harkening back to the 2017 map when Fortnite was first released.

This new season was released on November 3rd and brought 25 million more players to the game according to Gameleap. It is called Fortnite OG, and they are bringing back some of the original Fortnite seasons starting with Season 5, which was originally released in the summer of 2018. Fortnite was named number one by Top 10 Most-Played Games of 2022. However, although it had large amounts of previous success, Fortnite decreased in popularity in recent years as seasons progressed. It’s as though players believe the story and plot were stretched too far or became too confusing.

“I didn’t really like the most recent seasons because it got too confusing and they changed it too much,” sophomore Tyler Smith said.

Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, realized the game needed a comeback. Its ‘hype’ was decreasing and it needed something to bring it back to the number one most-played game. Vintage is the New World showed that most players wanted to go back to the earlier seasons when it was first popular, and they did not like the most recent seasons before Season OG. Epic Games took this opportunity to bring back earlier seasons with Season OG.

“I like this new season,” sophomore Jacob Caviglia said. “It’s really fun and nostalgic.”

This revival of the old maps has brought back many past players, drastically increasing its popularity in the past weeks with over 44.7 million players as of November 7th according to Elite Global Sourcing. This new season brought friends together with classic games of battle royal that are more engaging.

“Seeing the old map back made me want to start playing again,” sophomore Max Cortez said “It made me excited to play with my friends and gave me more reasons to talk to those friends.”

The feedback from many students about this change to Fortnite has been, so far, nothing but positive. Many students hope this map stays for longer than anticipated, but are still excited to see what is to come next.

“This is the most fun I’ve had playing Fortnite in years and I hope it continues like this,” Smith said.
