Wildfire smoke causes disruptions to Woodside Teachers and Students

According to a paper on Wildfire smoke by various government agencies, wildfire smoke can have “thousands of individual compounds, including particulate matter, carbon dioxide, water vapor, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and other organic chemicals, nitrogen oxides, and trace minerals, ” making its dangers similar to smoke from a house or building fire, though with much larger quantities of those materials.

Parks Sustain Fire Damage

The CZU August Lightning Complex fire ignited after lightning strikes touched down near Loma Mar; since then, the fire has resulted in one death, multiple injuries, and the burning of over 86,000 acres of land, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE).
The 5-14, 5-15, and the 5-18 fires (pictured here) in San Mateo County have burned a total of 604 acres and are 0% contained, according to CALFIRE.

A disturbing video from Monday night shows a white police officer pressing his knee on the neck of an unarmed black man, who is moaning and repeating that he can’t breathe. The handcuffed black man, identified as George Floyd, died at age 46 soon after his arrest.
