Woodside hosted their annual dance team showcase this year on May 11 and 12. The dance showcase was combined and put on by Woodside’s and Carlmont’s dance teams.
The dance team showcase was held in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on May 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on May 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The dance team has been rehearsing for this showcase since April 1. The event was organized by Woodside’s dance coaches Nina Nesmith, Marissa Velez and the dance team captains as well as Carlmont’s coach, Mandy.
“I was so excited for my first Woodside high school dance showcase as we worked so hard the weeks leading up to it and I just love performing in general,” freshman Naima Mai said.
Mai said she thought the showcase was a great opportunity to wrap up and reflect on the team’s successful season together. The team brought back some of their favorite pieces, collaborated with Carlmont on a few and also got to show a different side of dance.
“The showcase meant to me that we got to show the audiences our creativity outside of the dance styles we do in football and basketball,” Mai said.
Along with exploring and performing different styles of dance with the team, Mai said her favorite things from the showcase were the memories she made having fun on stage and backstage.
“I hope what the audience takes away from the performance is inspiration, to have courage, to put yourself out there and to dance as you are and explore different styles of dance,” Mai said.
