Coachella is a popular valley music and art festival that many celebrities attend including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Paris Hilton. While anyone can attend, expensive ticket prices and lodging is often a dealbreaker when deciding to go. Still, many people, Woodside students especially, stay updated with the music from home.
Coachella happened this year from April 11-13 and April 18-20. It cost $700 per ticket and around 125,000 people go each day. The headlining performers at the festival this year were Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone and Travis Scott.
“You generally go to listen to Lady Gaga or Post Malone, but you don’t really know the [smaller artists] and bands, so that was amazing,” computer science teacher Swati Tomar, who attended the second weekend of Coachella, said.
Tomar said that there were many genres covered and she enjoyed seeing international artists and rising stars perform. She also liked seeing some of the bigger productions, such as Charli xcx.
“What I loved about her is that she just owns the stage,” Tomar said. “Everyone is glued to her, she is everywhere and the energy [is amazing].”
Other people in the Woodside community who did not attend Coachella also made sure to stay updated with what was going on at the festival, like watching artists perform online or seeing what it is like for influencers to be at Coachella.
“I know that Charli xcx always puts on a cool performance, and Lady Gaga does some cool things too, so I was definitely excited to see [their performances],” freshman Abby Bartfield said.
Abby said that she was more updated with last year’s Coachella than this year but she still thought that the 2025 music lineup was solid.
“[If i could add anyone to the lineup] it would be Beyonce because in 2017 her performance was mind blowing,” Tomar said. “She takes it to another level of perfection.”
