Students come together at the 199 Records club during lunch to collaborate on music.
Meeting in the music production room, I-1, every Monday, the 199 Records club invites students to write, record and release original music. Along with that, the club also puts together live performances for students to showcase their musical talent.
“We have some people that make beats, so they just make instrumentals for the music,” one of the club leaders, junior Camille Sonnenburg, said. “We’re trying to couple that more with writing songs so we can produce a whole song.”
While the club releases music under the artist’s name, the song becomes a part of the school record label, 199 Records. This helps make the process of releasing music easier for students.
“My favorite part [of the club] is when we finish a song,” Sonnenburg said. “We can listen to it and think of how much time we spent on it.”
The 199 Records club provides students with unique opportunities by providing them with the equipment to make and record music together.
“It’s really nice to get to know new people and you get to collaborate with others,” freshman club member Lauren Deister said.
The club helps bring together students with many different musical skill sets, including vocalists, songwriters, instrumentalists and more.
“I like to sing and [play] my violin,” Deister said.
The club is planning on putting on performances, including an acoustic show during lunch on Nov. 14 and one on Dec. 6 featuring a live band.
“I feel like [the club] creates a great community of people that are all interested in the same thing,” Sonnenburg said. “We come in all the time at lunch and it’s very fun.”
