As the school year has begun, seniors have already started the process of applying to and preparing for college. After speaking to three seniors that are planning to go to college, this is what the process is starting to look like for them.
Senior Brody Brennan plans to apply to 14 colleges, with only one being out of state in Michigan. Brennan’s top choice has been University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for the last couple of years.
“I visited [UCLA] over the summer and I absolutely loved it,” Brennan said. “It’s been my dream school since I was 10 and has just consistently been my favorite.”
Brennan was asked if he was going to do any early applications and if starting the process was hard.
“I will be applying early to the schools that I can,” Brennan said. “It was hard because my sister applied to one college and got in so I didn’t have much guidance or help when it came to starting the process myself.”
Senior Maggie Mein also plans to go to college. She plans to apply to 11 colleges and her top choice is California State University, Long Beach.
“I really like the location and they have all the majors that I’m interested in and I love the beach,” Mein said.
Mein was asked if she plans on starting early application and if she considered the process hard.
“I am applying early action to a couple of schools,” Mein said. “It isn’t hard to start the application process, but just hard to have the motivation to keep it going and get the ball rolling.”
Senior Eva Smith also shared that she will be going to college and is currently applying to various schools.
“I think I’m applying to 11 colleges,” Smith said. “This is because I want to have a variety of options, I have some safeties, reaches and targets.”
She said that her top choice of college is to go to the University of Washington. Smith was asked if she would be doing early application as well and if it was hard.
“It is a little hard and seems so daunting to figure out all the topics that you’re going to write about so I struggled getting into it,” Smith said.
