This year, Woodside is offering several new clubs aimed at awakening passions and fostering talents.
The clubs were introduced to students at club rush on Sep. 10. One of the clubs presented at club rush was the Women in Sports club, a brand new addition to Woodside.
“The point of this club is to uplift women’s sports around school to really advocate for our success and to just encourage more participation in girls’ sports across Woodside,” junior and one of three founders of Women in Sports MaryCarla Germano said.
Women in Sports serves as a resource for students looking to connect over a shared interest in sports or to discuss developments in student athletics.
“[In the club] we talk about girls’ sports and how to improve them or how to get more participation,” Germano said.
Another club that showed popularity with students at club rush was the new Book Club, where students come together to discuss the characters and themes of current books.
“We started a book club as a space where we can talk about books,” junior and one of four founders of Bookclub Sophie Barbieri said. “We’ll have an optional book for each month. We’ll also set our own goals.”
If students can’t find a club that piques their interests but still want to be a part of one, they can create their own.
“If someone’s interested in starting a club, we have a form that they have to fill out,” Director of Activities Leslie With said. “[The form] is also on the Woodside High School website.”
After a student has filled out their form, there are still a few steps to go through to get their club approved.
“You still have to have a certificated teacher be the advisor, and you have to have 10 students who sign up to be part of the club,” With said.
Clubs are meant to be a helpful resource for students looking to engage with others through shared interests.
“People want to be in a community where everyone comes together,” Germano said.
