During their 2024-2025 season, boys varsity basketball went to Central Coast Section (CCS) playoffs for the first time in 50 years. The playoffs concluded in a loss during the second round against Westmont High School, 45-60 on Feb. 25.
Their overall pre-season was 10-15 and in league, they went 3-9. Woodside played Leland High School in their first round of CCS and came out with a 51-48 win. Moving on, they then played Westmont, which they lost 45-60. Isaac Wagner, captain of the varsity team expressed his takeaways from the season as a whole.
“I think we played pretty good this year,” Wagner said. “It wasn’t exceptional but we made playoffs for the first time in 50 years, so no complaints.”
Though he had hoped they got to go farther into playoffs, he still has takeaways from the season to continue to motivate his team for the next season.
“Our communication, defense, energy and aggressiveness kept us in most of our games,” Wagner said. “I feel like we were the best in those components in the game which led us to winning most of our clutch games.”
Despite the team’s strengths, Wagner reflected on how the season could have unfolded differently.
“We could’ve gone a lot farther,” Wagner said. “I still think we had a good season overall.”
