Wrestling has officially rebooted for the 2023-2024 season, with the team’s first nine events completed. The team currently holds three wins and one loss in the duals they’ve competed in so far.
This past Saturday, January 20th, wrestlers headed to Gilroy High School and Lynbrook HS to compete in Midcals and the Lynbrook JV Boys and Ladies Challenge, respectively. Woodside came up short in Midcals, but had three wrestlers place in the top 5 in the Lynbrook JV and Ladies competition: Evyn Ellis placed 3rd, Kevin Cowan placed 4th, and Celeste Ayala placed 5th, in their respective weight classes.
“I’d like our team to move up a division,” captain and senior Zayna Nasrah said. “I think we have a great shot, we’re all doing really well and through hard work we’ll be able to achieve that.”
The team has a new coach this year, Brynn Adasiewicz, a Woodside alum. Adasiewicz wrestled during her time at Woodside as well, becoming captain and even going to the Central Coast Section Tournament.
“There’s definitely a sense of family and togetherness, because even though it’s an individual sport, we’re all working very hard and all helping each other out,” junior and third-year wrestler Kai Kapur said.
