Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty to paying $15,000 for her daughter’s SAT answers to be changed, improving her score. This is the latest development in the college scandal, which began in April.
Lori Loughlin and Huffman, among other wealthy parents, were involved in a college scandal where they bribed different top universities to get their children admitted, despite being underqualified. Huffman bribed New York University, and Loughlin bribed the University of Southern California.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the U.S. government is trying to give Felicity Huffman four months prison time and a $20,000 fine, while Lori Loughlin was released on a one million dollar bond.
High school students, who are working toward applying to college, have strong opinions regarding the ethics behind the scandal.
“I just don’t think it’s fair that people work so hard to get into colleges and universities, and someone can just pay their way in,” Amanda Garnica, a senior at Sequoia High School said.
Many people know Lori Loughlin’s daughter, Olivia Jade, through her popular beauty channel on Youtube. Teens have mixed feelings toward Jade’s involvement in the bribing scandal.
“I still like watching Olivia Jade’s videos, and I don’t really think it’s her fault. I guess she was just raised getting what she wants,” Karina Hireta, student at Arizona State University, said.
According to E-News, Loughlin’s co-actor Bob Saget is still defending and showing his love towards her, stating, “I will say that I love her, and I will say that, no comment.”
Many are curious regarding the futures of Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin’s careers because of the scandal.
“I don’t think that what they did is ok, but I’m also not surprised that someone with that much money would do this,” Hireta stated.
Olivia Jade has not posted a Youtube video or has been active on social media and has disabled the comment section on her most recent Instagram pictures. Currently, five parents, including Jade’s mom, have pleaded guilty to bribing colleges and face consequences.
“I’m sure there are many more people who are involved in the same situation but have not been caught yet, but there is a big difference between right and wrong, and I think this situation is just wrong,” Garnica stated.
