Marvel fans at Woodside felt super this past weekend when the new Marvel movie, “Avengers: Infinity War” hit the the big screen.
On opening night, April 27th, “Infinity War” made $640.9 million at the worldwide box office, which destroyed the record as the most money that any movie has made box office opening. This surpassed the previous record holder, “The Fate of the Furious”, which made $541 million. “Infinity War” also made $258.2 million domestically during the weekend, which also breaks the record for the most a movie has brought in domestically on an opening weekend, beating out the previous record holder, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which made $248 million. Audience members that viewed the movie on opening night and had waited long for the release of it were statistic for the release, however, many had fears that the movie would not live up to the expectations they and the media set for the movie.
“Before seeing the movie, I was extremely nervous and kept thinking about how I really hope that none of my favorite characters were going to die,” Marvel fanatic Colby Peck told the Paw Print. “Yes, it actually did live up to my expectations! Marvel and the Russo brothers did an excellent job at creating this film and keeping this movie from becoming predictable.”
While some fans of Marvel thought it lived completely up to the expectations, others thought the movie could have been better in some aspects. Despite this, they were very happy with the main result.
“While it does have some flaws, overall it is fantastic,” Marvel fan Paige Blackwell explained. “I know it’s supposed to be the first part of two but it stands alone very nicely. I’m excited to see where they take it next.”
Fans are not only thrilled to have such a big movie bringing together all of their favorite characters, but they also know that there will be a sequel to this film
“I’m a huge marvel fan, so I know they’ve already got their movies planned out 5 years from now,” Blackwell admitted. “I do think the standard will be higher for upcoming films but I’m not worried about how many they’ll make.”
Fans of Marvel are excited to know that their superhero movies will not be coming to a close any time soon. They are looking forward to the future for it holds many more stories within the Marvel universe.
“There are definitely going to be more movies,” Peck said. “Currently, marvel is making more movies such as “Ant-Man and “The Wasp”, “Deadpool 2”, “Captain Marvel”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, another Spider-Man movie, and another “Black Panther” film. Now that their franchise is so massive there is no way there going to cut back on their production rate.”
The movie “Avengers: Infinity War” has been called a grand success for breaking many records just in the opening weekend and making fans of Marvel excited for the future of Marvel and what stories it will tell next, even without some of the more famous actors to play the roles.
“They are going to expand as much as possible to diverge from characters such as Iron Man and Captain America, because the actors who play these heroes, [who] basically control the Marvel Cinematic Universe, aren’t going to be playing their characters much longer,” said Peck. “So they have to make sure they still have an audience when Iron Man and Captain America aren’t around anymore.”
