Stuck on Star Wars?

A New Hope?

Disney released its second Star Wars movie since they bought Lucasfilm in 2012. The movie Rouge One was released on December 16 in 2016.

In 2015, Disney proudly presented the first Star Wars movie that was not produced by Lucasfilm. The Force Awakens received vast amounts of attention internationally and made large sums of money, approximately two billion dollars just outside of the United States.

“I feel the Disney ones got more attention because they hadn’t made a Star Wars movie in a while.” another freshman Jack Cryan said.

“The seventh Star Wars movie got more attention than the original movies because the large fanbase had high expectations for the new movie since it was being produced by Disney instead of Lucasfilm who had made the success possible,” freshman Chase Eavis stated.

The film also sparked a fire in the fandom industry, since Lucasfilm made their last Star Wars in 1983. People created little fan groups that obsessed over the original trilogies, so when Disney came out with a new Star Wars movie, tickets were sold out and theaters were packed across the country.

“I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since I first started watching the movies around Kindergarten,” Eavis said, “Star Wars has been a huge part of my childhood through movies, TV shows, and toys.”

Although the Disney version did ignite an interest in the young and old minds of people, not many appreciated the updated versions.

“The original Star Wars movies had a certain feeling that the newer movies don’t have. I can’t really think about what is missing, but the old movies bring back good memories that the newer movies can’t,” Eavis said.

But other people felt differently about the new movies, “I think Disney did a better job.” said Cryan.

And the old movies do have a certain feeling that the new movies don’t, the original actors we’re all used again but the tone that was given in the new movies weren’t as exciting or thrilling as the old ones.
“In my opinion, the newer Star Wars movies aren’t anywhere near as good as the older Star Wars movies because they just feel like unnecessary additions to the series.”
