The Woodside Girls’ volleyball team successfully advanced through three of the stages of the The Central Coast Section Tournament.

The volleyball team’s regular season record was na impressive 9-5 and their overall record was20-14. This allowed them to qualify for the CCS playoffs that take place during the team’s postseason.

CCS is part of a much larger federation known as the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). There are 9 other sections in CIF spread across California.

We were really excited when we learned we were going to CCS. It’s always the greatest achievement for a high school team,” sophomore player Elena Campbell said.

The volleyball team this year had many fewer seniors than they had in previous years, yet they were able to advance a lot further than years with more seniors.

“I feel like the team has a stronger sisterhood bond than previous years since we are all closer in age,” Maddie Mendes, junior on the varsity team, stated.

The CCS volleyball game at Woodside was very energetic with many Woodside students attending to cheer on and support the girls.

“You could definitely feel the energy in the gym during the game. Even though we were doing poorly in the first few rounds, everyone was cheerful and cheering the girls on,” affirmed sophomore Luis Gonzalez, who attended the game with his buddies.

Although they lost to Mountain View in the third round of CCS, the girls had one of their best seasons yet.

Volleyball sophomore player Lena Mcdonough thought that “it was a really fun experience, and we can learn from it to come out stronger next year. We will be older and stronger and finally bring a championship home.”
